Democratic Dirty Tricks in Ohio Special Election [UPDATE]

by David All 6. December 2007 06:06
As you know, there is a Special Election next Tuesday, December 11 in Ohio to fill the seat held by the late Paul Gillmor.

The good news is that we have a good Republican candidate, Bob Latta, who is running a strong, positive grassroots campaign and is getting his message out to Ohio's voters. If he makes it that far...

You see, the bad news is that the Democrats in Washington are convinced that they can win this seat, even though George Bush won the district by 61 percent in 2004. In fact, as the Politico reported, the Democratic campaign committee is plunging $148,000 in to the district for negative TV advertising.

Read that again - $148,000 on NEGATIVE advertising against Republican Bob Latta.

And those Democrats continue to prove that they will do anything to get more liberals elected to Congress to support Nancy Pelosi's liberal agenda. In fact, this TV ad produced by the Democratic campaign committee was pulled off the air due to its defamatory content by the TV stations:

The Democratic candidate, Robin Weirauch, is out-of-touch with this conservative Northwest Ohio district and has such a poor liberal record on illegal immigration, taxes, Second Amendment Rights, and abortion that it's no wonder the Democrats are resorting to false attacks.

Bob Latta is a good Republican who will win on December 11 who has the right message for Ohio. Watch this ad that he is running on how he's going to crack down on amnesty for illegal immigrants:

But he needs our help to keep this ad running. Regardless of where you live in our great country, the Democrats are trying to make a run at this seat with an out-of-touch liberal and we need to ensure a Republican victory.

Will you make a contribution to his candidacy today of $48 or more to help keep this message on the air?

Please give generously. But remember, even $25 would make a difference in this important campaign.

And by the way, I've asked our Treasurer to expedite any funds directed to Bob Latta to ensure that your dollars make a difference.

UPDATE 9:23 PM EST: A friend just pointed out that the Democratic candidate, Robin Weirauch, has raised more than $53K on ActBlue... And most of that money has come in to her campaign over the past 10 days.

UPDATE Dec. 5, 8:39 AM EST: Matt Margolis is urging his readers at Blogs for Victory to support Latta. And Slatecarder RGeorgeDunn has posted the notice in the HucksArmy.com forums. If you blog about this race, email me at David AT Slatecard.com and I'll post it in this space.

UPDATE Dec. 5, 9:44 AM EST: This race is closer than we thought. From today's Roll Call article (subscription required):

"I've heard that there are internal polls that show a 3-point race," said Ohio Democratic consultant Dale Butland. "It would be shocking. If that district goes Democratic, then there would literally be no district in this state that would be safe for Republicans."

A Republican insider with knowledge of the district said the special election "is easily within a 55-45" percent margin. "I think the DCCC knows that, otherwise there's no way they would have put the money into it."
